Reese emerges as early leader

Working through more than 200 low-and-burn about 10,000 calories, Skeet Reese, Auburn, California, went to get a cold drink and some empty calories to rejuvenate the senses after a hot Thursday in Alabama Lake Guntersville.

And the 2007 Toyota Tundra Bassmaster angler of the year without doubt deserves a celebration after mild carrying 29 pounds, 3 ounces to the scales, in the South Synergy Challenge, which put him in the familiar position at the top table classification.

This week, Reese is bidding for his fifth consecutive year among the top five in the elite competition, an unprecedented territory.

But it will have to wait two decorated veterans and fellow AOY winners Gary Klein (second) and Mark Davis (third) to achieve that feat.

Perhaps the only thing that can steal Reese holders is the fish of Lake Guntersville plant.

Guntersville is light at the right time, putting out the limits of 40, which weighed over 20 pounds.

And if anyone knows how to take advantage of a preparation Guntersville, is Reese, who scored a second place here in 2009.

“I’m very tired,” said Reese, a winner of the Bassmaster five times. “It is completely routine. My hands are so broken in this time of catching fish, is folly. It’s almost all the cast. My first cast, literally, I took a little over five of the club. ”

Klein, the 1989 AOY, registered 28 pounds, 4 ounces and is less than 1 pound behind Reese, a void that means little in Guntersville.

The Weatherford, Texas, for is having a stellar season in Guntersville line in 16th in the AOY classification, and in a good position to qualify for the postseason Bassmaster Elite Series.

Davis, the AOY 1995, was the first to review Fisher, returning to the check-in point an hour early. Mount Ida, Arkansas, pro fishing out at 10 hours and performed essentially the rest of the day.

“I had the best practice I’ve had in 28 years of fishing tournament,” said Davis, who amassed 27 pounds, 12 ounces.

“The large number of fish is so surprising.’s Going to be a horse race for four days and should be exciting.”

Behind Davis in the fourth was Fred Roumbanis, Bixby, Oklahoma, 1927-1911. Rounding out the top five was 1982 Bassmaster Classic champion Paul Elias of Laurel, Miss., with 26-12.

Only the top 47 anglers will qualify for Saturday. And of those, only the top 12 will go through Sunday.

Aaron Martens of Leeds took the $ 100,000 the first prize and Southern Challenge trophy last year for his fifth career BASS victory.

Martens struggled Thursday, the publication of a 43rd place finish.
